About the opportunity

As a Duty Manager within our Network Operations team, you’ll be a key leader driving operational performance and cultural transformation across the branch. Reporting to the Fleet Manager, you’ll be responsible for ensuring safety, compliance, and service delivery standards are consistently achieved — while leading your team through change to deliver operational excellence.

This is a hands-on leadership role that requires strong people leadership and change management capability. You’ll coach and develop your team, foster accountability and engagement, and embed new ways of working that improve efficiency, customer service, and network performance.

What you’ll deliver with us

Success in this role means leading a high-performing, safety-focused, and customer-driven team that consistently delivers operational results. You’ll work closely with internal and external stakeholders to enhance network performance and lead continuous improvement across the branch.

You’ll also:

  • Embed a strong safety culture through proactive leadership, compliance management, and corrective action strategies.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a diverse team — building capability, engagement, and accountability.
  • Champion change and continuous improvement initiatives to drive efficiency and operational excellence.
  • Manage day-to-day transport operations, budgets, and performance outcomes.
  • Build collaborative relationships across StarTrack, Australia Post, and third-party delivery partners to optimise end-to-end operations.
  • Provide strategic and operational insights to support commercial decision-making and asset utilisation.

About you

You’re an experienced and adaptable people leader who thrives in fast-paced, change-driven environments. You have a proven ability to lead teams through transformation, engage others around shared goals, and maintain focus on safety, performance, and service excellence.

You’ll also need:

  • Extensive experience in operational management (8+ years), ideally within transport, logistics, or fleet operations.
  • Demonstrated success in leading teams through change and building a high-performance culture.
  • Strong understanding of Chain of Responsibility (CoR) and compliance obligations.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, analyse operational data, and implement cost and process improvements (Lean/Six Sigma desirable).
  • Experience managing in a unionised environment and resolving complex people or operational issues.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and influencing skills.
